Montreal Improv, aka the Montreal School of Famous Improvisers, is doing so well that they are expanding. They are taking over the Beer Tent from the 1995 Fringe. They posted on their blog, Montreal Improv is growing! and my omment to that mentions that the place above the Second Cup was the Beer Tent (the only indoor site that I remember, though maybe it was indoors the first year) in 1995. My comment also gives some of the history of the Beer Tent in those days.

Their Laugh Library keeps growing, I have some more books to take to them, including Charlie Chaplin's autobiography. We were talking abouthim last year in reference to the "silent movie" show, and then I saw the book at a book sale. it's a good book abouthis childhood poverty and the early days of movie making, but sadly, gives no insight into his creative process. A vague reference about how the early films were done like improv, and later some dancer tells him "you are a choreographer", which I think is true. he may not be dancing in the films, but movement is such a key part of the performance. there is a rhythm to the movement. And he provides the full text of the speech he makes at the end of "The Great Dictator", such a great film, I remember stumbling on it on the CBC one hot summer night in 1975, unscheduled because it was filler for a baseball game that couldn't be shown.
